Have you ever walked into a model home or even a nice hotel? I’m sure that you have and have been impressed by their décor and arrangement. We are not suggesting that you completely redecorate to sell your home, maybe just reevaluate. Your very personal items such as family portraits and collectibles identify your house as your home. This in turn makes it more difficult because the prospective buyer has to envision their own personal belongings in someone else’s house. By removing some of your sentimental items, buyers will have more of a canvas to see themselves there. This could be the difference between a sale or not.
Another subject that needs to be evaluated is any type of “extra items”… sometimes known as clutter. We know that you love your stuff, everyone loves their stuff! However, having too many things around may make your home seem smaller than it really is, maybe not enough closet space or kitchen cabinet space to meet a buyer’ s needs. Temporarily removing some of the extras from your home can greatly increase the way your house shows, and ultimately sells.
Lastly, if you live in a single family home (not generally applicable to a condo owner) the magic phrase is curb appeal. Buyers love it and they usually won’t buy without it. It would be well worth your time to take a quick peek outside (a quick yet objective peek) to see if a hedge should be trimmed, flowerbed weeded or garbage cans put back where they belong. Recruiting the assistance of a good friend or family member may help you make the best decisions. Happy showing and good luck!
